Speak Asia Mastermind suffers from cancer: Legal firm

MUMBAI: Renu Sharma, wife of multi-level marketing firm SpeakAsia's mastermind Manoj Kumar Sharma, through her legal consultant, has written to the city crime branch informing them that her husband is suffering from cancer and is being admitted to a Singapore Hospital and she wants to pay a visit. For this, Renu has sought her seized passport back from the police. SpeakAsia is facing case of cheating around 24 lakh investors of over Rs 2,276 crore.

The economic offences wing (EOW) on Tuesday received a letter written by Phoenix Legal, a firm that is representing SpeakAsia. The letter read: "Our client has recently come to know that her husband is suffering from Lymphoma cancer (4B stage), which is a terminal illness". The letter further stated that Renu has been disturbed since she heard about it. The letter stated that Renu's passport is in the custody of EOW and hence Renu is unable to travel to see her ailing husband. The legal firm also requested the police to return her passport so that she could see her husband. Renu, the letter said, is currently visiting pilgrimage to pray her husband's health. The EOW sources said that they have not taken any call on the letter yet. "We will inform the court about it. Renu is also an accused in our case," a police officer said.

Renu, a resident of Lokhandwala complex in Andheri, was director of three firms; Tulsiyat Tech, Tulsiyant Information Pvt. Ltd., and Seven Rings Education Pvt. Ltd., The EOW cops claimed to have found a financial transaction of over Rs 500 crore from Tusiyat's account alone. "After the case was registered against SpekaAsia, Renu was detained at the Delhi airport on her arrival from Dubai since there was a lookout circular against her. Her passport was then handed over to EOW. The money, earned by duping panelists, was laundered thought Seven Rings firm," said an officer. Sharma, a B Sc graduate and ex manager of a reputed computer firm, is hiding in Singapore. "He is the brain behind the SpeakAsia fraud," said the officer.
